January 2026 Letter from the Chapter President
President's Report

Dear Central Indiana CPCU Society Chapter Members,
Thank you for your tremendous support throughout 2025. Our chapter had an exceptional year, due in large part to the leadership of our immediate past president, Tyson Vaughn. Under Tyson’s guidance, we expanded our visibility and strengthened our partnership with Butler University, where we hosted several monthly meetings. Butler has since become a national CPCU sponsor and contributed educational content at the 2025 In2Risk conference in New Orleans.
I am also deeply grateful to our Board and committee members for their dedication and hard work. One of our chapter’s most important responsibilities is engaging with the next generation of insurance leaders. I’m pleased to share that our Board visited Ball State University, Indiana State University, and Butler University, meeting with Gamma Iota Sigma chapters and speaking in business classes. Through these efforts, we promoted the CPCU designation and encouraged students to consider meaningful careers in our industry.
Our chapter also continued its tradition of community service. Volunteers loaded trucks for the Midwest Food Bank, unloaded trucks for Grace Church’s Food Pantry, and donated generously to the Humane Society of Hamilton County and Toys for Tots at our annual I-Day event and Holiday Party, respectively. Additionally, I want to extend sincere appreciation to our sponsors, whose support makes all these initiatives possible.
My name is David W. Paul, and it is an honor to serve as your 2026 Central Indiana CPCU Chapter President. While I have met many of you, I look forward to connecting with even more members throughout the coming year.
I graduated from Ball State University in 2000 with a major in Insurance & Risk Management and Financial Planning, and a minor in Spanish. My career began at Federated Insurance as a Captive Agent before becoming an Independent Agent and co-owner of Agency Associates in Zionsville. After the sale of our agency to Brown & Brown Insurance, I joined Hylant in 2012 as a Broker and have served since 2015 as Indiana Sales Manager for Hylant’s public entity division, Astra Insurance.
Upcoming Events
We have an outstanding year ahead filled with purposeful charitable initiatives, strong educational programming, high‑caliber speakers, expanded student outreach, and networking opportunities with insurance leaders across Central Indiana.
We are already off to a great start, having exceeded attendance expectations for our January 26 meeting featuring a Legislative Update from Representative Matt Lehman and Representative Martin Carbaugh.
In February, we will welcome Tori Merrill, Travelers Cyber Underwriter, alongside Alex Clark, Hylant’s Captive Practice Leader. Their session brings together the client, broker, and underwriter perspectives to demystify the cyber submission process and transform it into a collaborative experience.
In March, we are excited to host Rick Pitts, VP and General Counsel at Arlington/Roe, for his highly regarded Ethics presentation. If you haven’t attended one of Rick’s sessions, you won’t want to miss it because he challenges us to consider real‑world ethical dilemmas that rarely come with simple answers.
Opportunities to Get Involved
Our chapter is strongest when our members are engaged. If you’ve previously served—or would like to begin serving—we would love to have you join one of our committees:
- Finance Committee
- Golf & I‑Day Committee
- Good Works Committee
- Innovation & Influence Committee
- Membership Committee
- Monthly Meetings & Education Committee
- Emerging Leaders Committee
These committees are essential to delivering high‑quality programming, supporting our students, enhancing our digital presence, and strengthening our connection to the broader community.
If you are interested in joining, simply reach out to me or any board member and we will get you connected.
