Chapter Board Initiatives

Chapter Mentorship Program

Are you a seasoned professional in the insurance industry with significant experience and knowledge who would like to be able to share your wisdom and acumen with others? Or, are you just starting out in your career, have switched careers, or would just like to connect with someone to help you grow and progress in your field? We are exploring the possibility of launching a local mentorship program designed to connect members who are interested in professional growth, career development, and sharing industry knowledge. To that end, we would like to gauge the level of interest among our membership. If you would be interested in serving as a mentor by sharing your experience and insights, or if you would like to be paired with a mentor to help support your professional development, we'd love to hear from you.

Please email Eric Richmond at [email protected] to let him know whether you are interested in being a mentor, a mentee, or if you'd simply like to learn more about the program. Your feedback will help us determine the level of interest and shape a mentorship program that best serves our members.

In2Risk Scholarship Opportunity

We still have scholarship funds remaining! The Chapter is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships for members to attend this year's In2Risk taking place October 19–21, 2026, in Las Vegas. Through this opportunity, the Chapter will cover the recipient's conference registration fee, which is $1,149 for a CPCU Professional member (new designees and student fees are less). Recipients will be responsible for all other expenses associated with attendance, including airfare, lodging, and meals. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until allocated funds are exhausted. If you are interested, please email the Chapter at [email protected]. Early bird registration for In2Risk ends on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Charitable Organization Recommendations

Each year, the Central Indiana Chapter supports various charitable organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity at I-Day, Toys for Tots at our holiday party, and Midwest Food Bank, Grace Care Center, and, new this year, St. Mary's Childhood Development Center through our volunteer mornings we hold a few times each year.

Member Spotlight

We hope you enjoy our Member Spotlight. Each month, we’ll take a moment to highlight one of the incredible individuals who make our Chapter special. From their unique stories and experiences to the ways they contribute, inspire, and connect with others, this is our chance to get to know the people behind the names a little better. We hope this feature not only celebrates our members, but also strengthens the sense of connection that makes our Chapter such a meaningful organization.

Joe Hunter-Lattak, CPCU

Joe received his CPCU designation in 1987, and, God willing, hopes to celebrate his Golden anniversary. His career has been almost entirely in Commercial Lines spread over multiple fields of underwriting and marketing, specifically Specialty Inland and Ocean Marine plus Workers Compensation. He decided to obtain his CPCU when he realized that if he wanted to be perceived as an insurance professional, he had to “walk the talk” and show his dedication to professionalism in concrete and visible ways.  For those on their own journey, remember - like life, ‘it's the journey, not the destination.’ Achieving the designation is just the beginning of applying it for life. 

As he studied, what stood out to him were the concepts in underwriting for risk selection (and everything that goes into it from all disciplines) that are the basis and groundwork for insurance as a whole. Nothing is simple, or cut and dried. There are an endless number of variables that have to be considered. The words "insurance" and "simple" do not go together and are mutually exclusive, he believes. Insurance is like peeling an onion. It has far more layers than you can imagine and you just keep discovering layers. There is a place for everyone in the industry. It's just a matter of finding that place. 

Ultimately, as Joe says, it's all about people, plain and simple. And people are anything but plain and simple. Insurance is a combination of art and science. Dealing with people is an art. Nothing simple about it, but nothing better than doing it successfully.

Final thoughts: The best advice Joe received was during his 30 years in the Army Reserve. He had caught a Major General sweeping the drill hall floor after weekend drill likely thinking he was alone. Joe mistakenly admonished him for doing it. They were on good personal terms, so it was not as risky as it might sound! His response: "There is no rank when there is work to be done."

7/23: RIMS Lunch Event

Central Indiana CPCU Society Chapter board members David Paul, Eric Richmond, and Alicia Peetz will be speaking at the July 23rd RIMS lunch to present the benefits of a CPCU designation and membership in the CPCU Society and local chapter. We'd love to see some chapter members attend! Location is Cooper's Hawk Winery on 96th St. in Indianapolis.

7/31: Good Works Event

We'll be volunteering at St. Mary's Childhood Center in Indianapolis on July 31, 2026 from 9:00am - 12:00pm. We would love your help in supporting this wonderful organization. 8/20: New Designee Welcome

Registration is now open for our annual New Designee Welcome and Summer Social. All members are welcome as we invite our 2026 new designees to meet the members of the Central Indiana CPCU Society Chapter. This year we'll be back at Sun King Brewery in Carmel on Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Visit the Chapter Events page to register!

10/7: All Industry Day - Save the Date!

Mark your calendars! The date for this year's All Industry Day (I-Day) is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at the Ritz Charles in Carmel, Indiana. Our committee is hard at work lining up informative and captivating speakers for our seminars and keynote. Keep an eye on our website's Chapter Events page in late summer to register.
